To show the
properties of a contour in the Property
Panel, select the contour from the Object
Explorer. The Property Panel displays the properties of the contour as
shown in Figure 1.

*Figure 1:
Contour “Outer” is selected in the Object Explorer and the Property Panel
displays its properties.
*

To change the
name of the selected contour, click on its current value in the
Property Panel to edit it. Insert the new value and press *Enter*. Alternatively, rename a contour directly in the Object Explorer.
Select the contour from the Object Explorer and then left click on it to edit the name (notice this is not the same as double clicking).

This property
determines whether the contour is a closed curve or not. Change it by
selecting the desired value from the combo box as shown in Figure 2. When a contour is closed, select the value *True* for the *Closed*
property, BioVis3D joins the extreme nodes of the contour to make it a closed
curve (see Figure 2.)

*Figure 2:
Effect of closing a contour.

This property
shows the area delimited by a closed contour measured in the unit specified by
the Unit of Measure sequence property. To
compute its value click *Calc*, which appears after clicking on
the property.

*Figure 3:
Area property of a contour.
*

**Note**:
When a contour is modified, the value of this property appears empty until *Calc* is clicked again to update the area.

**Note**:
If the contour is not closed, a message appears asking the user to close the contour
in order to compute the area.

This property
shows the perimeter of a contour measured in the unit specified by the Unit
of Measure sequence property. To compute its value click *Calc*
which appears after clicking on the property.

**Note**:
When a contour is modified, the value of this property appears empty until *Calc* is clicked again to update the perimeter.
