BioVis3D Version 3.0 - New Features

The version 3.0 includes the following new features:

  • New modeling capabilities:

This version includes a tool designed to easily draw paths to reconstruct tree-like structures. Once rendered in 3D, the path will appear as a tubular structure that resembles a tree. In addition to this, BioVis3D calculates several measurements over the 3D paths models, such as segment lengths and angles between nodes.
  •  Improvements to contour detection:

New features were designed to make the contour detection process easier and more efficient:

            - Expand object: These tools expand each contour of the object to the previous and to the next slice.

            - Expand contour: These tools expand the contour to the previous and to the next slice.

            - Join Contours: This tool joins two contours. It is used after the tool Expand Object to adapt the contours to the changes in the object morphology.

            - Open previous / next slice: These functions open the previous and next slice maintaining the zoom factor and the scrollbars positions of the opened slice. This is very effective when working with a certain area of interest in the slice.

  • Export sequence:

The sequence information is now exported to files with extension .TXT, and the decimal separator is the period regardless of the decimal separator configured in the computer.

  • Export contours and paths information:

Contours traces as well as detailed information and measures of the paths are exported to tab-separated text files to allow the processing in spreadsheet or scientific applications.

  • Invert slices positions:

This tool inverts the positions in the stack of each slice of the sequence. This function is useful when the stack of images is loaded in reverse order, and because of this the 3D models are misoriented (left side is shown in the right and right side is shown in the left).
